Conscious Sedation Dr. Kevin Ackerman Dr. Eric Towson Ackerman & Towson Dentistry. General, Cosmetic, Restorative, Preventative, Pediatric, Family Dentist in Brentwood CA 94513 Conscious Sedation

If you are someone who puts off going to the dentist due to anxiety, you are not alone. Many people feel it is a hassle. Experiencing stress and dreading going to the dentist is entirely normal. Let’s face it – nobody wants to be in the dentist’s chair. You may not look forward to it, but you don’t have to fear it. At Ackerman Towson Family Dentistry, we see multiple patients with anxiety surrounding the dental office each day. We can help you feel more comfortable and confident in receiving dental care through conscious sedation methods.

Conscious Sedation in Brentwood Can Help

Routine dental and restorative appointments are necessary for oral and overall health. Ackerman Towson Family Dentistry can help you ease the pain and fear you may associate with dentistry. Helping you ease the worry can also help you keep those dental appointments you might dread.

What is Conscious Sedation?

Before your procedure, we will speak with you about available sedation options. If you already know that you would benefit from sedation, you can let us know at the beginning or even before your appointment.

The primary type of conscious sedation that we offer all patients is inhaled through the nose with oxygen, called laughing gas. Many patients will have laughing gas administered at the very beginning of the appointment to help them feel more “laid back” and calmed about the dental work we perform. You will feel very comfortable and relaxed, which makes receiving care easier.

Light sedation, such as laughing gas, is considered conscious sedation because the patient is awake and aware throughout the entire procedure. We can use light sedation for almost any dental procedure, but the most common procedures it’s used for include:

Keep Your Dental List Checked Off

Dentists can work more efficiently with the use of conscious sedation. Since you’re comfortable and relaxed, you will be less concerned about how many different dentists perform. You will be less concerned about how long those extra tasks may take. Conscious sedation allows the dentist to do more during a single appointment instead of spreading different tasks over different appointments. Not only will this be quicker and more efficient for us, but it will also help your scheduling.

Conscious Sedation Can Be Safer

Sedation dentistry is not only considered safe but sometimes considered safer than procedures not involving sedation. Patients with severe anxiety and fear can become nervous and move while the process continues. To ensure that you are safe while lightly sedated, we’ll closely monitor your:

  • Heart rate
  • Blood pressure
  • Anxiety level

During conscious sedation, you’re still in control of your devices and responsive but will feel more relaxed.

Is Conscious Sedation Available for Any Dental Work?

Sedation is not required for every procedure, but many patients request it. Talk to us at Ackerman Towson Family Dentistry. We will make sure you understand all involved with your recommended procedures. We will make you comfortable. We will listen to you to understand your pain tolerance.
